We're Back (All of Us)

His HAIR! HIS HAIR! WHAT HAPPENED TO HIS HAIR!!

We're all home, finally. I've been shuttling about, to and fro, from my Kallang home to my in-laws in Bedok Reservoir. It's tiring, to say the least. Not as much as it has been for the Lady though. She's been needing to take care of his night owl habits.

Yes, he sleeps in the day, and terrorizes everyone at night.

In revenge, we shaved his head. Naw, I'm just kidding. But we shaved him anyway, because apparently it was good for him. I think it's good for cradle cap or something. He looks so different without hair.

We're just coming out from a tiring week. It's been so for me mostly because of the travelling, for the lady because she's had to carry David during the unearthly hours, and David because he's bald. I hope Sunday will be a good time to recover.

I've got some exciting news to share about where I'm headed in my career, and with some luck, I'll be able to soon. Remember what I said about living liberated? Well, it could be coming true soon.

The First Month Thing

I'm perplexed when it comes to things like that. I'm trying to figure out how to do it. There's cakes and eggs and food, and parties. I like parties, but I'm wondering if grouch will!

While it seems somewhat easier to do now that the my company only has 3 people (my previous work place had 200), we still have a number of relatives who want to celebrate the day with us, and Saturday's already packed.

Hey, if any of you would like to drop by for a visit to see our little grouch and his parents, let us know, we'll get pizza or something.

Monday Faithful: Singing, Sleeplessness, and Ais Krim

 

Crooning
I discovered, after a series of attempts at soothing David the Grouch, that music actually calms him down. It's amazing. "Baa Baa Black Sheep" works like a charm, together with other assorted lullabies that I remembered from my youth. I'm wondering if he's picky about the song. I'll have to try humming the tune to "Superman" next. Just kidding.

Like His Great-Grand-Daddy
I was a little stunned looking at a picture of my grandfather in his youth. David's got some of his features, which is not surprising, but rather interesting. My granddad was a serious man, and rather grumpy (he was more cheerful after a drink or two, but it got better after his conversion). I was wondering, won't it be so strange if David were serious and sober like him? It would be so.... well, strange.

Sleeplessness Caring for the Grouch
The lady and I are slooooooowly taking over from Feng Jie, who's been teaching us how to go about controlling him. I'm very glad that she has the same principles when it comes to child caring. She's a very capable lady who's got tons of experience, something we call can learn from. I promised her that she'll be the first person we call even after our number eleven (the lady is glaring at me now).

Can You Imagine Oreo, Banana and Cinammon? I Can.
Whipped together with cream, eggs and other nice things. Eelin came by today to deliver the best ice cream we've had for a long time. You know, that homemade goodness and all that. Hey Eelin, we're (very) willing test subjects, we'll volunteer anytime to sample ice cream goodness. ANYTIME! Hahahaa. We love ice cream so much.

Reconnecting

Important.

When there's a bawling, hungry, frisky little thing demanding all of your attention, it's really hard to settle down and spend time with each other.

That's why last night, in spite of being tired out of our minds, we found a space of time between feeding our boy, and just sat on a bed beside each other. Held hands and stuff.

I guess it didn't matter what we said. More, it was that we finally had some "us two" time.

I miss it too, dear. I didn't know how much until I sat beside you. Just like old times.

A Picture to Remind Me

I thought this was so nice. It's actually a picture of some Church's Kid's Ministry, which I thought was beautifully taken. It's so poignant, no?

I'd like to think that the woody surface in the picture as the horizontal beam of an old rugged cross.  That means much to me.

The Monday Faithful: A Weekend Of Working It Out

The Wife And I Are 3 Week-Old Parents
Come Wednesday, that is. We're trying to wean ourselves off the lady that's helping us, because she's been doing so much for us we feel rather pampered. The lady and I are taking over slowly - and we know that being able to so is a luxury.

We're Ironing Out Issues
We're so new to this parenting thing. I speak for the lady when I say that we literally could feel our lives changing in front of us when you have your child in your arms. It really changes everything. Every goal, every plan, every action, it all suddenly takes on an extra dimension to them. Between us, we're still working out a couple of issues about how we're going to manage in the coming months and years. I admit that sometimes we're not as patient doing it. But this is important. So we're willing to thrash it out, and we're willing to try. Something she's better at doing than I am.

I Missed Church! Aaaaaaargh.
Gar, I'm I missed you all! Hopefully, we'll be able to bring David by soon, he's looking good enough to come in about 2 weeks. We'll come with cakes and some goodies for everyone.

So, That Something I Was Talking About
Okay, I've thought much about it, and I'm going to start taking steps to start working from home. It's something of a dream, but I think it should stop being one and start becoming a reality. I'm actually so glad for the situation that the lady and I are in - where God's blessing us at every step - that we're learning so much about what our lives together are for (a hint: it's not about long hours at work). I'm going to be chronicling my journey to financial and personal liberation. I'm still working out the plan, but I'll be sure to tell you all about it as I move along.

Tired Minds, Exhausted Bodies

Bleah.

Ooh. The Boy's Getting Active
Well. He's waking up every 2 hours or so, and he's demanding more food (milk). I'm looking at the wife doing all she can to satisfy him, but she's terribly tired.

The Boy's a Drinking Machine

Just this morning, he asked for a double helping of milk, and promptly threw up all over himself. The funniest thing was that he looked *very* pleased with himself. Then, with an empty stomach, he started opening his mouth for more milk. Awesome boy.

We Were Warned
My sister, whose boy Nicholas is 6 weeks ahead of David said, "yeah, you *think* he's an angel. You hope he sleeps, eats, poops, and keeps it simple. No way, not after the 2nd week. After that, they show their real character." No surprises really. You should see David on the first day. Even the nurses were surprised at how much he squirmed.

Okay, Back Home Now
I'm going back to cheerlead and assist in feeding. Hope the lady had a chance to rest some.

Our Diapered Dynamo
He's active, and he's more than a handful (52cm long, actually). Everyone who had come by said that he's got the longest legs - it's true, it's quite a sight seeing him kick. He spent the good part of last night up doing just that, wailing and kicking. His mummy is entirely exhausted.

Happy Baby (and Grandparents)
The lady and I had her parents over, and they spent a good two hours playing with him. It was fun to see him interacting in his own limited way with everyone. His great-grandmother couldn't help but fawn over him.

I'll Stop Here
Right, I'm keeping this entry short this week. I want to be a little ahead of the things that I have to do, in line with a promise I made to myself to balance my life out. I'll talk a little bit about that revelation later.
