I would never, never have imagined Vietnam being so much fun. I haven't had that much fun on a trip for a long time.
But you know, I still can't put my finger on it. Maybe it was because Angela and her bunch of friends were just bent on having a a great time.
Maybe it was the break that it gave me from work, and all the headaches I otherwise would have had if I were at work.
Maybe it was just the fact that I was going on a holiday with Angela (though we had plenty of chaperones). Yeah, that's it. :)
One of the highlights of the trip must have been on the Saigon River. We were all strolling down that smelly and rather grimy dock running along the river, when we spotted a Chinese Junk that had the most impressive set up I've ever seen. Unlike the big boats with big lights (which looked and felt like a cheap Chinese restaurant on water) it was a quaint, warmly-lit junk with an impressive buffet spread - for 25 people. The decor was nothing shy of a top grade restaurant in Singapore, and the service was impeccable. Plus, there was TONS of Pho. Tons.
That trip down the river, dining on that Junk in decadent luxury, the ambience - not even the faintly foul scent of the Saigon river breeze could steal that romantic 2 hours cruising down saigon river.
I could almost swaer I heard Perry Como croon "Magic Moments" in the background.
Well, it definitely was one of them. Let's cherish this one in our memories forever, dear!
